Hii Libertarian readers! I am Skya, most of you know me as Skye. Throughout the month the MO command team within OPA has worked tirelessly with OPA and USDF members to bring back something so missed, The Libertarian. What better month for the lib to come back than spooky month! We could have not completed this reboot without the fantastic graphic designers and writers making strict deadlines. Spooky Recipes 😮
Hello haunted pixels! In today’s recipe we got some meatballs as an appetizer then for the main dish we got some stuffed peppers and for the delicious dessert we finally got brain cake! Be careful while baking these recipes because the ingredients might bite or even eat you! I advise you to prepare the dishes at your own risk because you can get eaten instead of eating them!

The Hall of Mirrors
It was my favorite time of year. The warmth of Summer and early Fall was replaced by a cold chilling breeze. Trees once full of bright green leaves of bountiful summer were now orange and brown, sucked dry of a Summer gone by. This left us knocking on Thanksgiving’s door, but before Turkey Day came the hallowed night of Halloween. It’s the only time of year where you can dress like an idiot and get free candy with the flash of a cheesy smile and a 5-minute costume. It was my favorite holiday, and to celebrate, I dressed up like a piece of candy: cliche, but a fitting farewell to arms to Halloween.

5 October is a day where we show appreciation to all teachers around the world. This is a special day that also serves as a reminder of how Teachers shape us with their wisdom, knowledge and support. Teachers inspire our passions, help us chase our dreams and provide us guidance through our journey in education. The knowledge and skill sets teachers equipped us will be something we carry and reflect in our daily lives.
To celebrate unwavering dedication, we have reached out to a few teachers in USDF to find out their favorite memory of being a teacher, what inspires them and the rewarding part about being a teacher. If you are an inspiring teacher, this would be a good read to motivate you to achieve your goal!

What’s your favourite memory with your students?
I have so many incredible memories from teaching. It’s hard to choose one. Core memories are ones like seeing your students graduate, or finally learn how to spell a word they’ve been working on. But I think the ones that stand out most are the singing and dancing and Nativitys that I’ve worked with students on. The happy moments where we can be silly and just have fun together. Seeing them light up on stage in front of their parents and are able to shine.
What is the most rewarding part about being a teacher?
I work in quite a low-socio economic area and a lot of my students don’t have much. Many of them don’t have the best home lives and have lived with a lot of trauma. The most rewarding part of my job is when I finally break down the barriers of their thick skins and build that relationship with my students where they feel comfortable in my classroom, and find school to be a place where they can relax and enjoy. Creating an environment that prospers positive, calm and safe environments promotes the ability to learn. My students come a long way once they find their comfort.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
When I was in prep, I came home from school and told my mum that I was going to be a music teacher. I had the most incredible music teacher in Primary School and she inspired me to sing and dance and play every instrument you can imagine.
Unfortunately I’m not that musically inclined so I never became a music teacher, but i did become a Primary School teacher. That teacher inspired me and still continues to inspire me to be the teacher I am today. She gave me the confidence as a little girl to be whoever I wanted to be and do whatever I wanted to do, and I want to be that person for my students.
What words do you have for those we are inspiring to become a teacher?
Teaching isn’t an easy gig, but it’s a whole world of fun and laughs when you find your place. Children are the most incredible, creative and inspiring people and being able to spend my time watching them grow and learn is the best job in the world.

Watching beginner-level students achieve personal and professional goals. Celebrating these accomplishments and learning more on their long-term goals reminded me of the value behind the education sector. This vocation brings self-fulfillment which no other activity has been able to provide.What inspired you to become a teacher?

For any career, find the opportunities for exposure. Get your hands dirty by interviewing people within your desired field, entertain an internship (paid or unpaid), and do your research. Consider whether the top 3 reasons you choose this pathway make you happiest. If you enjoy what you do, and you care about what you do, the return on your investment to the career will be rewarding.
